A Piece of Montana History
The Yegen family has a deeply rooted history in the Yellowstone Valley and surrounding areas. Peter Yegen Sr. immigrated with his family from Switzerland in the late 1800's and set up shop along the Northern Pacific Railway in what was the beginning of the city of Billings. He sold baked goods with his brother Christian, and established the Yegen Bros. Mercantile, a building that still stands along historic Minnesota Avenue in Billings today. The family has worked Hereford and Red Angus cattle in Yellowstone and Stillwater county for over 100 years and with five generations of family.
Peter Yegen Jr. was born in 1896. Our office has been housed in several historic buildings over the years, but in 1954 the business found its permanent home at its current location, 211 North 30th Street. Inside is a treasure trove of Billings-area and Montana history, established through generations of family heritage.
